On November 3, 1969, PBS was created to provide educational television
programming and services that reflect the diverse interests of the
American people.
Today, nearly 90% of U.S. television households tune into PBS member
stations, and we are expanding our public service mission to digital
media. In September 2012, Americans watched more than 150 million
videos across all of PBS’ web and mobile platforms.

Why extremists always focus on women remains a mystery to me. But they all seem to. It doesn’t matter what country they’re in or what religion they claim. They want to control women. They want to control how we dress, they want to control how we act, they even want to control the decisions we make about our own health and bodies. Yes, it is hard to believe that even here at home, we have to stand up for women’s rights and reject efforts to marginalize any one of us, because America needs to set an example for the entire world. And it seems clear to me that to do that, we have to live our own values and we have to defend our own values. We need to respect each other, empower all our citizens, and find common ground.

So be Patriotic. Go out there and get rich. Get so obnoxiously rich that when that tax bill comes , your first thought will be to choke on how big a check you have to write. Your 2nd thought will be “what a great problem to have”, and your 3rd should be a recognition that in paying your taxes you are helping to support millions of Americans that are not as fortunate as you.

disillusioned
I met with a group of people from a church tonight. These are good hard working people that have lived in a very small town their whole lives. They are older and somewhat conservative. The church is grappling with homosexuality and Christianity and if they should discuss it with the whole congregation. Someone wanted a vote—I am still confused about what their vote would accomplish. The question apparently is “who believes that homosexuality is wrong?” The most upsetting part of the discussion was when a church leader (not a pastor) claimed that the LBGT population “recruits” others to join them because “they have such a small population, they have to recruit.” I wanted to scream, “Did you just say that?” I am saddened by this exchange. There were people sitting in that room that have gay children. I walked out of the room with a very heavy heart. I can’t get “I pity his ignorance and despise him” quote by Dickens out of my head. What a very sad day!
